05 ‘Jesus Is A Rochdale Girl’ – Build a Rocket Boys! (2011) – Elbow

  • 2nd verse: as above but with organ
  • 2nd chorus: ends with extended with instrumental section
  • background children / crowd as solo
  • bvs: low ‘ohs”
  • lead vox: closer, doubled with keys – new melody
  • and back into chorus melody but this time with wordless singing and doubled with keys
  • slow down ending

  • back to verse instrumentation
  • structure: verse, chorus – repeat, then end with piano solo over verse instrumentation
  • bass drops out before final returning for piano solo
  • only steady piano left before it fades out

01 ‘The Birds’ – Build a Rocket Boys! (2011) – Elbow

  • rattling percussion intro

  • low bass comes in with vox
  • vox; hi and low together (hi is verbed and distant)
  • pause between verses; only drums and right gtr remain
  • second pause after 2nd verse; ‘ooh’ vox and bass double and other inst?
  • middle: new bass / beat + elc key line (r2d2 ish) + strings
  • new vox melody – multi part
  • back to prev melody – with big strings
  • then both melodies combine as vox / overlapping
  • end with melody only and minimal perc
